The Narayaneeyam, a notable Sanskrit epic, is a remarkable condensation of the grand epic Bhagavatham into 1036 shlokams, composed by Vyasa.

The central theme of Narayaneeyam is Bhakti, focusing on devotion. Regarding literary merit, the Narayaneeyam holds a prestigious position in Sanskrit poetry.

As per legend, Bhattathiri intentionally acquired the debilitating condition of paralysis by praying to Lord Krishna, transferring the ailment from his Sanskrit grammar teacher, Achyuta Pisharoty, who was suffering. This act was to relieve his Guru of the affliction. Following this, Bhattathiri had himself taken to the temple of Lord Krishna at Guruvayur. Lying prostrate before the Lord, he sought refuge and solace at the Lotus-Feet of the Lord.
